INTRODUCTORY TREE WORKER CLASS

The Tree Worker program has been developed by The Center to Advance minority Participation in the Construction industry, RIDEM Division of Forest Environment, RI Tree Council, Local Arborists and National Grid. The purpose of the training is to provide the students with the basic knowledge and skills needed to enter the industry as an Entry Level Tree Worker or Laborer.

All of the training will be delivered by a variety of potential employers from the industry itself with the exception of the First Aid/CPR and Work Readiness modules. This 38 hour training program consists of seven modules: Introduction to the Arboriculture Industry and Trees, Tools & Equipment Safety, Chainsaws, Heavy Equipment, Job-Site-Awareness, First Aid & CPR, Work Readiness and Introduction to Industry Employers.

Students who successfully complete and graduate from the program will receive a Certificate of Completion from The Center and associated groups. Additional training will be provided by the employers (OJT).

Potential Employers: Tree Companies (Residential and Utility), Landscapers Nurseries. State of Rhode Island and Cities & Municipal Parks Departments.

This class is just a beginning step for these students. Hopefully it is just a starting point of learning about arboriculture and may lead into a long prosperous career in the industry.

For more information on the program please contact either John F. Gomes at 351-7507 or Christopher J. Rooney from National Grid 784-7326.
