Hands on Construction Training Program

The objective of the training program is to provide the student with the necessary training to enter the construction field as an entry level employee.

This program will expose the student to all aspects of home building from foundation to roofing by providing instructors who are professionals in all the various fields listed below. The student will also be provided with handout and videotapes to assist them in their learning process.

Safety-OSHA Ten-Hour Construction Safety Course

This OSHA approved course will satisfy the state requirement for safety training for all construction site personnel. In this course, the student will learn how to increase safety awareness, how to prevent accidents and injuries, and how to reduce company risk of OSHA violations. The student will receive instructions on OSHA regulations and safety codes as they apply to electrical hazards, falls, ladders and scaffolding, and much more. RI law mandates that any contractor who bids on state funded projects over $100k must have proof of this 10 hour course , you will be issued a completion card as documentation that you have fulfilled the state mandate.

Hand & Power Tool Safety shows employees how accidents can be significantly reduced by applying good, general safety rules. The program reviews hazards associated with specific types of tools. This is a four hour course, which will be delivering by Mr. Norman Cook

Plan Reading-The scope of this eight hour training module is restricted to the Pine Street Duplex Project plan, working drawings and specifications for the project.

This is a four hour course to be delivered by Mr. Stanford Cameron

The student will learn the following:

• How to Read a Site Plan
• How to Read a Plan Review
• How to Read Elevations, Sections & Details
• General Review of Electrical & Mechanical Drawings
• On the job site visits to view how the building will be situated on the site

Work Readiness:

This training will provide participants with the tools to effect a smooth transition into the workforce by using standard project coordination skills. Instruction is delivered in a workshop format and is competency-base. It includes: lecturettes, self-assessments, exercises, role play and mock interviews. By the conclusion of the training, participants will have a comprehensive workbook that includes subject content, forms, scripts and recommended reading/websites to maintain a productive and efficient transition to the workforce.

Goals:

• Participants will have a résumé and cover letter; they will know how to update these documents.
• Participants will understand how to conduct due diligence for a career marketing plan or to identify a course of study for potential career options.
• Participants will be familiar with effective interview strategies.
• Participants will understand the basic life skills for keeping a job.

Occupational Safety and Health :

Standard First Aid (6 ½ hours)

This course provides hands-on first aid and adult CPR training and explains how to use an AED for victims of sudden cardiac arrest.
